Generate lorem ipsum as ready-to-paste Markdown

Lorem Markdown produces a placeholder document written in Markdown, ready to paste into editors, docs and test fixtures. Each run has an H1 heading and the classic lorem ipsum opening, then "Sections" sections (1 to 10, three by default), each with an H2 heading, a paragraph with bold, italic and inline code, and a rotating block: a bullet list, a numbered list, a blockquote or a fenced code block. It ends with a table, a horizontal rule and a link. Writers drop it into a preview to judge typography, and developers feed it to a Markdown parser to exercise the common elements.

How to use Lorem Markdown

  1. Open Lorem Markdown in the Toolbox101 app; a document is already in the Output box.
  2. Set Sections (1 to 10) for how long the document should be.
  3. Click Generate New for a fresh draw. The words change; the structure follows the same pattern.
  4. Click Copy and paste the Markdown into your editor, or into the Markdown Preview tool to see it rendered.

Frequently asked questions

Which Markdown elements does the generated document contain?

An H1 and H2 headings, paragraphs with bold, italic and inline code, bullet and numbered lists, a blockquote, a fenced code block, a table, a horizontal rule and a link. Which block follows each section rotates, so with three or more sections you see most of them. That is enough to see how a renderer styles each element.

How is this different from the plain Lorem Ipsum tool?

The plain Lorem Ipsum tool gives loose paragraphs, sentences or words. Lorem Markdown gives one structured Markdown document, so it is the one to use when you need styled elements visible or a Markdown renderer exercised, not just raw words.

Can I preview the result?
