Convert HTML to Markdown
HTML to Markdown converter sends pasted markup through the Turndown engine and returns Markdown text: headings come back as # lines, links as [text](url), lists with - bullets and 1. numbers, and emphasis, strong text and inline code with their delimiters. Developers use it to move email HTML, scraped pages or exported docs into notes and READMEs, where the plain-text result has no tags left to strip by hand. Fenced code blocks are used for pre content.

Frequently asked questions
How are headings written?
In ATX style, with # characters: h1 becomes # Title, h2 becomes ## Title and so on down to h6. That is the style most READMEs and Markdown editors use.
Do HTML tables become Markdown tables?
No. The converter does not include the GitHub table extension, so a table's cells come out as plain text on separate lines, without pipe syntax. If the document still reads correctly as text that is fine; if you need real tables, add the pipe syntax by hand after converting.
Are images, links and code blocks preserved?
Yes. Links become [text](url) and images . Inline code, emphasis and strong text keep their Markdown delimiters, and pre blocks become fenced code blocks. Ordered lists keep their start number, so a list that starts at 3 stays 3..
How is this different from Markdown to HTML?
This tool converts in the opposite direction: HTML in, Markdown out. Markdown to HTML takes Markdown and writes tags. The two are not exact inverses, so a round trip can reorder or lose detail such as tables and div wrappers; use each for the direction you need.
