Text Tools
Text-to-speech reader for pasted text
Text to Speech reads your text aloud with the speech synthesis engine built into your browser, so no audio file is made. Proofread an article by ear, hear a chat message or code comment spoken, or test how a phrase sounds before recording it. Paste the text, optionally choose a "Voice" and a "Speed" from 0.5 to 2, and press "Speak"; "Stop" ends it. The voices on offer are the ones your operating system and browser provide, so the list differs from one device to another.

Frequently asked questions
Which voice reads my text, and can I change it?
The Voice list shows every voice your browser and operating system offer, with its language. Default uses the system voice. Different devices ship different voices, so the same page can sound different on a phone and a laptop.
Why do I hear nothing when I press Speak?
Speech synthesis needs a browser with Web Speech API support (Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all ship it) and an installed voice, and the sound goes to whatever output your system is using. Check that the tab is not muted and the volume is up. If the tool says speech synthesis is not available, the browser does not provide it.
Will it read a very long document in one go?
In Chrome a long-standing bug can stop a long utterance after roughly 15 seconds, so very long text may be cut short there; other browsers read through. Keep to paragraph-length chunks and press Speak again for the next part.
