Text Tools

Reverse text character by character

Reverse Text flips text in four ways, chosen with "Reverse": the whole text end to front, each line on its own, the order of the words on each line, or the order of the lines. Writers check palindromes with it, developers sanity-check reversal logic and puzzle solvers read mirrored messages. Reversal works on characters as people see them, so an emoji with a skin tone or an accented letter built from several code points is not torn apart.

How to use Reverse Text

  1. Open Reverse Text in the Toolbox101 app.
  2. Type or paste the text into the Input box.
  3. Pick Reverse: Whole text, Each line, Word order or Line order.
  4. Read the result in the Output box, which updates as you change the text or the mode.
  5. Click Copy to take the result, or reverse it again to restore the original.

Frequently asked questions

Does reversing text change the order of words too?

In Whole text mode, yes: the input is reversed from last character to first, so the letters of each word and the order of words and lines all flip, and hello world becomes dlrow olleh. Pick Word order to reverse only the words on each line (world hello), Each line to mirror each line in place, or Line order to flip the order of the lines.

What happens to line breaks when I reverse multiple lines?

In Whole text mode the last line comes out first and each line is mirrored: alpha over bravo gives ovarb over ahpla. In Each line mode the lines stay where they are and only their letters flip: ahpla over ovarb.

Does it handle emoji and accented letters?

Yes. Characters are kept whole: an emoji with a skin tone, a flag or a letter with a combining accent stays one character when reversed, so you do not get broken symbols or stray accents.

Is this the same as backwards text generators that use special fonts?

No. Many backwards-text sites emit upside-down or stylised Unicode letter forms. This tool does a plain reversal of your exact text, so the output is ordinary text that pastes anywhere and reverses back to the original.
