Encoding
Encode text to Morse code
Morse code encoder converts text you paste into International Morse code: dots and dashes you can blink, beep or tap out. Radio amateurs check words before keying CW, puzzle solvers turn hidden messages into plaintext, and hobbyists prepare strings for Arduino buzzers and LEDs. Case does not matter. Letters, the digits 0–9 and common punctuation map to signals, letters are separated by a space and words by /. A character with no Morse symbol is reported by name instead of being skipped.
How to use Morse Code Encode
- Open Morse Code Encode in the Toolbox101 app.
- Type or paste the message you want to signal into the
Inputbox, for examplesos 911. - Read the
Outputbox, which fills in as you type: dots and dashes per letter, with/marking each word gap. - Click
Copyto put the encoded string on your clipboard, then paste it into a signal generator, an LED sketch or a chat.
Worked example
Morse Code Encode returns the output below for this input.
Input
hello worldOutput
.... . .-.. .-.. --- / .-- --- .-. .-.. -..Check it yourself: open Morse Code Encode and enter the same input.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Morse code for SOS?
SOS is three dots, three dashes, three dots. Paste sos into this encoder and it returns ... --- ..., with the standard space between letter groups. It is a distress call, not an abbreviation: the rhythm is what makes it easy to recognize over the air.
How do you separate words when encoding Morse code?
In this encoder a space between words becomes /, so hi there encodes as .... .. / - .... . .-. .. On the air a word gap is a longer pause, roughly seven dot units long; the / is the written convention used in text transcription.
Does it encode numbers and punctuation?
Yes. Digits 0–9 and common punctuation (. , ? ' ! / ( ) & : ; = + - _ " $ @) all have Morse codes, so sos 911 gives ... --- ... / ----. .---- .---- and help! ends in -.-.--. A character with no Morse symbol, such as # or an emoji, is named in the Output box so you can fix the text rather than get a silent gap.
