Converters
Convert between bytes, KB, MB, GB and KiB, MiB, GiB
Byte converter takes a size, the unit it is in, and shows it in every unit at once: bits and bytes, the decimal units KB, MB, GB, TB and PB (powers of 1000), and the binary units KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB and PiB (powers of 1024). Developers use it to size log volumes, upload limits and storage tiers from exact figures. Choose the starting unit in "From" (bytes by default) and type the value; a 1048576-byte file reads 1.048576 MB and exactly 1 MiB.
How to use Byte Converter
- Open Byte Converter in the Toolbox101 app.
- Pick the unit your number is in with
From(bytes by default). - Type the size into the
Valuebox, for example1048576. - Read every unit in the
Outputbox, decimal and binary side by side. - Click
Copyto keep the converted sizes for your storage plan or quota note.

Frequently asked questions
Does 1 KB mean 1000 bytes or 1024 bytes?
Here both are available and kept apart: KB, MB and GB are the SI units (1000, 1000^2, 1000^3 bytes) and KiB, MiB and GiB are the binary ones (1024, 1024^2, 1024^3). A drive sold as 1 TB is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, which the output shows as about 931.3 GiB. That gap is why a new drive looks smaller in an operating system that counts in binary units.
How do I convert KB or MB back into bytes?
Set From to the unit you have and type the number; the bytes line is in the output. 512 KiB gives 524288 B, and 2 MB gives 2000000 B.
Why do some rows show an exponent?
Every unit is listed, so a small file appears as a tiny fraction of a petabyte. Numbers are shown with up to ten significant digits, and very small ones switch to exponent notation such as 1e-9.
How large a value can it handle?
Values are ordinary JavaScript numbers, exact for whole numbers up to 2^53 (about 9 petabytes) and approximate, to ten digits, beyond that. That is far past typical file and quota figures.
